Costco Wins Unanimous Approval in Collier County, Setting Stage for New Store Near Marco Island |
Despite hours of passionate opposition from local residents, Collier County commissioners have paved the way for a new Costco warehouse and gas station in East Naples. |
Collier County commissioners have unanimously approved plans for a new Costco, a decision that has sent animosity through neighboring communities.
The vote came after a four-hour public hearing where residents voiced strong opposition.
This controversial move allows the wholesale giant to build a massive 162,671-square-foot store and a 24-pump gas station in East Naples.
The undeveloped site sits at the corner of Rattlesnake Hammock Road and Collier Boulevard, part of the Hacienda Lakes development.
This location places the new big-box store directly adjacent to Physicians Regional Medical Center.
Dozens of residents spoke out, citing concerns about traffic, safety, and potential flooding in an already busy corridor.
Of the sixty people registered to speak, only one voiced support for the new store, highlighting the convenience for shoppers from Marco Island and Naples.
Opponents felt their concerns were dismissed, with one organizer vowing to challenge the decision in court.
The fight, they insist, is not over.
If site plans are approved by county staff, Costco is expected to break ground in early 2026, dramatically changing the retail landscape for East Naples and surrounding areas. |
