Useppa Island recently changed ownership, with Useppa Island Partners purchasing the island for $16 million. The sale includes the historic Collier Inn and Gasparilla Cottage. The new owners, including ten longtime homeowners, are focusing on revitalizing the island's infrastructure and business model. CEO Steven Mezynieski and co-owner Joe Salas bring diverse backgrounds to the project, with plans to invest $35 million in island improvements. The island has a rich history, with previous owner Barron Collier purchasing it in 1911. Over the years, Useppa Island has faced challenges, including three hurricanes and a class action lawsuit. The new ownership group has dropped the lawsuit and aims to enhance the island's appeal for residents and visitors alike. Renovations are underway at the Collier Inn, with a focus on preserving its historical charm while improving functionality. The goal is to complete the restoration of the Collier Inn by early 2026, creating a world-class destination while honoring the island's past.
